Psychology

What is Psychology?

The word "psychology" is the combination of 2 terms: (ology) study and (psyche) soul. This means that psychology is the study of the soul or mind.

Psychological Methods

Longitudinal Studies:

It is a research method which observes a particular population over time. The advantage with this method is that it can see how a condition can affect individuals over long periods of time. The bad thing about this method is that the subjects that are being studied can die throughout the period of time. It can also be difficult to draw conclusions because not everyone reacts the same to the research.
Longitudinal studies answer important questions about how people develop.

Computational Modeling:

It is a tool oftenly used in mathematical psychology and what it does is that it simulates a particular behaviour using a computer. It has many advantages, for example, since modern computers are extremely quick they can simulate different behaviours in a very short period of time. Another good thing about it is that it allows psychologists to visualize hypotheses about mental events that could not be directly observed by a human.

There are many ways of modeling:
Connectionism: Uses neural networks to stimulate the brain.
Symbolic Modeling: It represents many different mental objects with variables and rules.

Other types of modelling which are not used much are:
     Dynamic Systems
     Stochastic Modeling
